TPS7A85A: About thermal shutdown temperature

Part Number: TPS7A85A

Hello,

I will question about the threshold of thermal shutdown.

Question: Does 160 ° C and 140 ° C show the hysteresis width?
Is there a case where the thermal shutdown function operates at 140 ° C?

↑ It is to know rough minimum value of Tsd (Shutdown, temperature increase).
If you have sample data of the minimum value of Tsd, please teach.

Thank you.

  • Hi Mayumi,

Yes there is typically a 20 C hysteresis for thermal shutdown. We are not aware of thermal shutdown engaging to turn off the LDO below 140 C. While 160 C and 140 C are typical values for thermal shutdown, TPS7A85A will not turn off due to thermal shutdown until the junction temperature reaches approximately 160 C - well above the operating maximum of 125 C. Care should be taken in designing your application so that the junction temperature of TPS7A85A does not exceed 125 C during normal operation. Continually running into thermal shutdown degrades the lifespan of the LDO.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
