LP2950: Reverse Input-Output Voltage

Part Number: LP2950

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering LP2950 and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

LP2950 is PNP voltage ragulator.

In this device, is there a parasitic diode from output to input.

Also is it necessary to add an external diode when considering the reverse current from the output to the input?

In this case, input cap is 1uF and output cap is 1uF.

For example, LP2985 has a parasitic diode inside and external diode is needed.

Is it similar to LP2950?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

We will look into this when we return from the Christmas Holidays. Please understand that our responses will be delayed during this time.

    Hi Jason,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am looking forward to waiting your advise.

    Best regards,

  • In reply to Shinichi1:

    Hi Shinichi,

LP2950 also has the parasitic diode as this is part of the PNP pass element. A schottky diode is required to provide the reverse current protection.

Please refer to the application note from LP2985.

    Hi Jason,

    Thank your for your reply.
I'm sorry for late reply, I had a new year holidays.

I understand LP2950 has a internal parastic diode and need to implement external shottkey diode.

I'll share this information with the customer.

    Best regards,
    Shinichi
