TPS7A33: +0.6V capacitive charge on OUT

Hello,

My customer is aking about what will be happened if +0.6V capacitive charge is applied om OUT pin while TPS7A33 is disabled. Although we understand that this is out of abs max rating, we wluld like to know if this device will be significant damaged or just measure a leakage current to GND through ESD circuit.

Hi Toshiro,

only +0.3V is allowed at the output. Applying higher positive voltages at the output can be dangerous because of parasitic substrate pn-junctions which can become biased, accidentally. As consequence the regulator could latch-up and get destroyed.

Thank you for your feedback. >+0.3V voltage on OUT makes damage the device due to forward biased pn-junction.

It should be effective to put SBD across OUT to GND in such case as one of the solution.

Hi Toshiro,

yes, placing a Schottky diode across the output will help. If higher currents in the 100mA range can flow and the nominal output voltage is up to 15V, we usually take a 30BQ040. This is a 3A Schottky diode.
