Q: LP38690 junction-to-case resistance by 805721
Hello,
are SVA parts fully supported in INT forum already? I have a question from our customer:
I kindly request to tell me how much is the junction-to-case thermal resistance of the LP38690 regulator in TO-252 case.
I can not find this value in the datasheet (rev. December 14, 2010). As I see You present only junction-to-ambient thermal resistances of the regulator in TO-252 case mounted on some kind PCB copper area "radiators" (page 5, note 2). I have found junction-to-case thermal resistance of the regulator in LLP package (page 14), but I am not sure is that value correct to TO-252 case too.
I need "Theta j-c" value to estimate the junction temperature in the worst case situation (I measured case temperature and I know dissipated power).
Regards

Hello Miro,
SVA Parts are supported!!!
I did some research to get you the best quick answer. Even though our packaging group does not have any data on the LP38690, I was able to find devcies we have characterized with similar die size and same package material. Based on this data, the LP38690 should have a Theta JC number of approximately 10 C/W.
Regards,
Dennis

Miroslaw,
Thermal parameters that are not available in the datasheet can be requested through the Packaging Team's request page https://sps04.itg.ti.com/sites/WW-HPA/hpa_pkg/Lists/Thermal%20Model%20Request%20Form3/NewForm.aspx
