Q: Does the TPS797xx have thermal protection?
A: The TPS797xx does NOT have thermal protection. As long as the customer does not exceed Tj absolute max of 85 deg, the IC will be okay. Operating above the abs max spec is not recommended to begin with; the IC may not regulate the output to specification, damage the IC, and degrade long term reliability.
For our lower current devices we have the TPS77218 and TPS76518 that features PG and Thermal Protection. These devices also have current limit protection.
The customer would have more lower current LDO options without a PG feature and pair it with one of our voltage monitors SVS ICs as a PG output.
