I would like to understand how adding Cff would improve anything on page 3.... There is no mention to this capacitor in the rest of the datasheet

    A feedforward capacitor is used to improve the phase margin and therefore the transient response of a regulator. This capacitor provides both a pole and zero in the frequency domain response of the regulator.  The seperation of the pole and zero depends on the ratio of the output voltage to the reference voltage.
