TPS54060 PLL Ext Sync Bandwidth

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54060

Hi,

I have got a question regarding the PLL section of the TPS54060: I want to use a spread spectrum modulation for the switching frequency and i wonder if the bandwidth of the PLL is high enough to synchronize and keep in lock with my external clock.
Does anybody know the bandwidth? Or can anyone share some experience about using spread spectrum modulation on the TPS54060?

with best regards,

Daniel

  • I have done some informal testing with a device in that family with the same PLL.  I did not use spread spectrum, but FM modulated clock signal.  I visually compared the clock waveform to the SW node waveform.  For up to 5 kHz BW, the PLL tracked well.  Between 5 kHz and 10 kHz, the frequency was matched, but the phase tracking drifted increasingly from 5 kHz to 10 kHz.  Above 10 kHz it would not track.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi John,

thank you very much for your testing and your fast reply. I have chosen an oscillator with 3 kHz bandwidth now.

    Yours Daniel
