Hi,

I am trying to derive a sensor node working at 3.3v using TPS63001 IC, with li-ion battery as source.

The load (node + sensor) takes a current of 200mA in active mode and 1mA in sleep mode.

When I tried to use the TPS63001 IC for regulation using the circuit configuration given in the data sheet, it was able to provide 3.3v output but the no load current was around 8mA at 3.6v input and incresed as i moved to 5 volts ot i decreased from 3.3 to 2 volts.

why this IC is taking so much current without any load?

Is there and other solution where I can get a regulated output with very low output current prefferebly in micro amps?

TPS63001 features a power safe operation mode for light loads. This mode is enabled by connecting the Pin "PS/SYNC" to GND.

Could it be that this modes is disabled in your circuit and this Pin is pulled high?

I tried connecting it to gnd to enable power aver mode but still it takes huge current (8-16mA). what can be the possible reason?

What should be the normal no load current for a bucu boost converter?

What do you meant with bucu boost?

When there is no load present, the current is just defined by the sum of the quiescent currents (the device itself + the caps + board + ....). When everything is properly done, it should be far below one mA.

Do you get a stable output? An unstable circuit can be the cause for higher currents as well.

I am sorry that was a typing mistake.

Yes I get a stable output only the current is very high.

I have also used the EVM provided on TI's website but in that case it take arounnd 160mA. Even though the current is very high the output is stable at 3.3Volt.

What could be a possible reason for this high current?

what would be a proper test procedure to test the IC?

Did you use the EVM without any modifications? I don't see a high current flowing when operating the Module.

Can you try to give me a sketch of how you connect it and maybe post a picture of your EVM setup?
