Hi,

Am using TPS54550. For Vin=5V(4.5to5.5) ; Vout=1V (50mV ripple) ; Freq-700KHz, am getting a max efficiency of just 81% at for 4.7uH (Tunable).

Please help me in tuning the circuit to achieve a min of 85% effciency @ 1.27A; 2.32A and 3.016A.

The easiest way is to lower the switching frequency. You can also choose a low side FET with lower RDSon and inductor with lower series resistance. Switcherpro efficiency accuracy is about +/- 4% as well.

Am using this reg for other rails as well in board, so i want to stick to it.

Can you please suggest an inductor part whcih can help me in boosting the efficiency. Also, can you please share the formula being used by the tool for efficiency.

John, is there a full install for SwitcherPro ? The pc I use does not have direct access to the internet

There is, but you have to down load and register it from the internet:

Thanks John, I already tried that link. I downloaded it, and ran set up, but it comes up with an error when it tries to download further files from the internet, and won't install. (I tried it at home and there was not a problem).

I guess the install is trying to get further files for library/database updates ? I don't know how to circumvent this except by working at home !

If I recall correctly switcherpro used to be distributed by CD. I may have an image file of it. I will look. Since it was several years ago, I may no longer have it as I have switched PCs since then. I'll let you know.

Hi John, were you able to find the switcherpro image ? I have also tried to use Webench too, but the TPS54550 part is not supported, and the Spice model seems to be encrypted.

Is there likely to be support for the TPS54550 in Webench ? Maybe I should just get on with my calculator like in times past ?
