LM3481-Q1 SEPIC Inductor value

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3481-Q1

Hi

My customer has questions about LM3481-Q1 SEPIC cercuit.
Could you tell me about questions?

[Question]
 My customer request power supply is same to reference design "PMP7155". So my customer try to figure out inductor value using AN-1484(ΔIL=Iin*15%).
 This is result.
 - Customer request -
  Vin(min)=4V
  Iout=1.5A
  fsw=250kHz

 - Result -
  Single inductor: 29uH
  Coupled inductor: 14uH

 My customer checked PMP7155 circuit. PMP7155 use coupled inductor "33uH". My customer is wondering why PMP7155 dosen't use 14uH.
 My customer want to know how to select inductor. Please help us.

Best regards,

tateo

  • Yamashiro-san,

    I am not sure I understand the question entirely, but the reason to select a higher inductance would be so that it operates in CCM at lower currents and to make the ripple lower.  If those characteristics are not important to this user, the design may work fine with the lower inductance as well.
