to choice a perfect coupled dc bidirectional converter for balancing /power sharing single cell on 16 cells lifepo4 bat. system

Hi TI, i am tryin to design a perfect coupled bidirectional dc converter for active balancing/sharing power (sepic) for a 16 cells lifepo4 batterie system, i rod is actually the most advancing system for that use,  but i dont know wich one to choose with the rights parameters,  5v , 2.5/3 amp output. I have doubts about the specific speed balancing rates, I mind that system is probably good for balancing on charging  but not for a fast active balancing on discharge. What could the right dc converter choice for use in that project?    ¿ Should it be a good idea to use  coupled single switch dc converter for use like a single cell charger/ fast balancer during discharge?.  Berst regards

  • What is your input voltage?  5V output at 2.5A - 3A, correct?

  • hi Jhon, thanks for your pront feedback, i am french and i work, actually, in Spain on a solar powered light vehicule with carbon fiber frame and last technologie for batteries management , i focus mi choice on TI because it seems you have the most suitable products. The minimum in put voltage on discharge cells is around 3v and maximum 3.9v/4v in charging , the balance function for life po4 is between 3v and 3.9v, maximum 4v , the max amp possible, best regards

  • I'm still not sure what you are trying to accomplish.  Are you looking for a step down (buck), step up (boost) or buck/boost converter?

  • Hi, i am not elect. engeneer but i have basic knowledge and i try to choice the most performant design for a balancing system. Between all i use a basic ``sharing transformer´´ design for balancing cells in the way to perform a simple balancing bms trying to avoid complex switches and electronics controls. But may be the most performants are the bidirectional dc converters or ac-dc converters who need complex systems control. Mi electronic technician dont know too much about analogic controls and i do the searching job on the way to save money. (Mi complete project cost me a lot of money).   I share you a primitive basic desing in the way to perform it using bidirectional dc converter or bidirect. ac dc converters. The project is to built an autonomous balancer with ac bus or dc bus ascociate to an auxiliary batterie for the dc dc bidirectional converter. There are many devices from TI i can use like dc dc biderectional conv. but not many to use like ac-dc converter. Is the reason i lokk for advise. I dont know wich one can be the most performant too. Basic sahring transformers desings can create some unwanted troubles while charging but they work very well  on discharge, is why i mind the bidirectional ac-dc or dc-dc are more performants. situations, best

  • input will 48v dc bat. bus , output 4v 5 amp for lifepo4 actually i want to simplify with tipical SDC converter ¿ but shure they have to be isolated ones? can be no isolated'
  • hi, i actually work on that desing 4 cells module cells balancing but i dont know to use SDC convereter or isalated converters, thanks is important for the following of mi project, best regards
