LM2841 short circuit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2841

Hello!

I am trying to use the LM2841 to provide a 5V output from 24V input.  I have therefore used the application circuit shown in Figure 15 on page 10 of the datasheet for the LM2841.

Testing under no load, on first power up the device and the circuit are fine providing the 5V output as required.  But after a few power cycles the output goes to 24V (i.e. matches the input voltage) as if the device is short circuited.  As we have copied the application circuit we are not sure what is the cause of this.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • When you say power cycle do you mean powering-up and down ??

Is so are you cycling the shutdown input or the power input ??

Also, what is your load current?  Are you using a resistive load or an Eload ??

If you are cycling by using the power input, there may be some overshoot on the input that is damaging the device.

If possible please provide some scope shots of the input and output during the cycling.
