Hi,

I found TPS53513 Recommended Operating Conditions VIN is 1.5~18V, but Absolute Maximum Ratings VIN can stand -0.3~30V.

I'm curious about how to deside this voltage gap(12V) between Recommended Operating Conditions and Absolute Maximum Ratings.

BTW, can I use this converter for 18Vin to 5Vout design?

It is not clear why they would have such a large margin. I can think of a few possible reasons, but I don't think i want to speculate on it. Your conditon is ok though. You should be able to safely derive 5 V output from 18 V input.

Hi John,
Thanks for reply, so I don't need to have margin for my operating max. input voltage?
For example, if this converter operating voltage could be 18V +-3%, would it be danger?

You are in the gray area. You are in no danger of damaging the IC, but may be be operating outside of the the specified limits for some parameters in the electrical characteristics table. The datasheet is not real clear about it. I have just recently added this IC to our group, so I am not familiar with the history on why it is specified as it is. I can check it next week.
