TPS63060 Vs TPS61088 for 6V battery to 6V motor supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63060, TPS61088

Hello,

I am looking into a DC/DC converter to power a motor at 6V from a 6V battery pack. When the batteries are fresh and operating slightly above 6V would I need the buck capabilities of the TPS63060 to bring the voltage down slightly or will the TPS6108 not care about the slightly higher voltage at its input compared to the output?

Thanks,
Thomas

  • Thomas,

What is the  accuracy requirement of the output voltage? For the TPS61088, when left the mode pin open and let it work under the PFM mode, when Vin is slightly higher than Vo, the output voltage will nearly equal to the Vin. When  connect the mode pin to GND and let it work under the PWM mode, the output voltage will be higher than the input voltage.  So  in your application, if the TPS61088 can work under PFM mode and output voltage accuracy is not a problem, then TPS61088 is still OK.
