TPS62235'S Efficiency @Only PWM Mode

Hello.

My customer is currently in considering TPS62235,now.

My customer have been requesting a device with over 80% Efficiency under the following conditions.

So, please tell me about Efficiency of the TPS62235.

※This data without the data sheet

※WebBENCH also non-compliant

Please help me!

<Conditions>

・VIN:3.6V

・VOUT:1.2V(Fixed)

・IOUT:0.05~0.2A

・Target EFFI:over 80%

・MODE=VIN(Only PWM)

・L = 2.2 uH MIPSZ2012 2R2 (2012 size),

・COUT = 4.7 uF

Could you help us?

Best Regards,

Pokkun

  • <Postscript>
The customer is using MPS's device(MP2148) at the now prototype .
However, the customer try to replace aggressively.
I want to get the chance.

Even if the input voltage is different , it is OK if it is close conditions .(for the time being ...)

First of all , I want to bring this result in order to ask the availability to the customer .
  • The PFM efficiency for this IC is shown in Figure 10. Figure 9 shows the PWM efficiency for the 3MHz version. This curve shows above 80% for your entire load range. The 2 MHz version (TPS62235) will be higher. As well, that FDK coil is older. Toko's DFE series has much lower DCR in the same package size, so there is some improvement here as well.

This IC is meeting your spec.
  • Thanks for the answer .

If you can prove this in the data it is very promotion easy even as we .

Do you have good material to make this possible?

    Best Regards,
    Pokkun
  • Per my previous reply, the D/S has data showing that the device delivers over 80% efficiency under your conditions. Is this sufficient to promote to your customer?

If not, we can take some data later this week. We will plan to use a DFE series coil with lower DCR.
  • The answer is "Not",sorry.
Please execute to get the data.

    Because,
I do not know whether this device want to migrate to the PWM mode(with more than 50mA).
    ※"Datasheet Figure 10 (p16)" data only
  • I'm sorry but I don't think you catch my point. Please look at Figure 9. This is your forced PWM mode.

This efficiency curve is for the same output voltage and is over your 80% spec. The only difference is that the TPS62235 IC switches at a lower frequency. This will improve the efficiency. It will still be above 80%.

I may be able to measure some actual efficiency later this week with a better inductor.
  • Thank you answer .

In theory , so we also understand to be raising the efficiency in the selection of the frequency and inductor verbally says to the customer .

    However , from this data ... .
It is below the 80 percent in "VIN=5V/IOUT=50mA", your data are required in order to convince the customers .

    Could you help me?

  • Here is your data.  A 2.2uH coil improves efficiency a lot by keeping the ripple current lower.

  • Thank you very much ! ! ! ! !
I will promote this device with full power.

    Best Regards,
    Pokkun.
