TPS65130: TPS65130 ripple issue

Part Number: TPS65130

Hi Team,

My customer is evaluating our TPS65130, we hope to replace LT3582 in their platform. But now per Customer's test, the ripple and pulse peak noise is big and can't accept, can you help check this issue? As it is a little bit urgent for customer to do decision to use TI or not, so your great support are needed, Thanks!

Below are the sch/pcb and test waveform and test probe picture for your reference.

BTW, customer is using Power saving mode (PSP and PSN are high), it's difficult to change the mode now.

  • Hello Sulyn,

During power-safe mode operation the converter operates only when the output voltage falls below a threshold voltage, ramps up again with several pulses until the correct output voltage is achieved and then stops pulsing again entering the power-safe mode. The output voltage ripple in this mode is therefore naturally higher than in fixed frequency operation.
What you can try is to increase the feedforward capacitor (~470 pF), as this will increase the bandwidth and the converter can react more quickly resolving in a better transient behavior.

    Let me know your feedback.
    Best Regards.

  • Hello Sulyn,

Did you make any progress on this?

    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Hi llona,

Thanks a lot for your support and sorry for my delay due to china holiday. Now customer tried to use non-power saving mode and the output load is small< 20mA for each rail(They use jump wire to connect the PSP and PSN pin to GND), the output ripple become, but after running about 1~2 hours, TPS65130 was damaged itself with smoking, customer tried several boards and all board was damaged after running some time. So my question here, can TPS65130 be configured in non-power saving mode with PSN and PSP connected to GND? Why TPS65130 will damaged?

    Best regards,

  • Hello Sulyn,

The observed problem is due to the fact that the current drawn from the REF pin is too high. Please adjust feedback resistors values such that this current is kept between 5 uA and 10 uA.
