TPS63051: CAN THE PFM/PWM INPUT BE CHANGED WHILE CONVERTER IS RUNNING?

Part Number: TPS63051

Can I switch the PFM/PWM pin while the converter is running or will that cause a spike / glitch in the output Voltage ?

  • I don't expect any problem when you switch from PWM to PFM. The other way round form PFM to PWM can cause a small glitch on the output voltage, but you need to evaluate if this is acceptable for the end application.

Why do you need to change the mode during operation?  What is the end application?

  • If it will be a small glitch going from PFM to PWM. , then I'll try it on the prototype as long as it won't be a huge Voltage spike that could blow chips.

Depending on what the product is doing, some functions will require as low a ripple as possible because I need as low a clock jitter as possible from the PLL that is part of the microcontroller.  Other functions do not. So when running functions that do not, I can get the increased light load efficiency.
