MC33063A-Q1: IC getting short at ambient temperature of 65.

Part Number: MC33063A-Q1

Hello,

I am working on reliability of converter circuit for a motor application. We have used MC33063A-Q1 as a buck converter. It is used for 12 V to 5V/200 mA conversion on that converter board.  The IC gets short at around 65-degree centigrade ambient temperature. As per the datasheet, working temperature is -40 to 125-degree centigrade.

Before thisI had used MC34063ADE4, its operating range is 0-70 degree centigrade. The same mentioned IC used to get short at around 80-degree centigrade ambient temperature. As per the datasheet, it looks fine. The current IC MC33063A-Q1 is meant for higher temperature,  but it is actually getting short at around 65-degree centigrade.

As the temperature falls below 40-degree centigrade it starts operating normally. Could you please let me know the reason behind this issue.

Thank you
