PMLKBOOSTEVM: Did you find errors in the experiments?

Part Number: PMLKBOOSTEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS55340

I'm trying to use Power Management Lab Kit Boost to learn more about boost DC/DC converter.

In the first and second experiment, I find some real values (i.e. Idcm) completely different from the theoretical values. The experiments have no meaning because using the voltages and currents in the experiment i don't see what the experiment wants to show. I have to modify that values to see something interesting.

In Experiment 3 the instructions are wrong because without J7 (according to TPS55340 manual) the regulator doesn't work.

Has anybody checked the tool to verify that the manual and the results are correct?

  • The best person to answer your questions is Prof. Femia. These boards and listed experiments are developed and recommended by Dr. Femia to help university students to get hands on experience with basic converter topologies. You may send him an email at femia@unisa.it.
  • Hi Riccardo,

I got a response from Dr. Femia. Below are his responses.

Q1: In the first and second experiment, I find some real values (i.e. Idcm) completely different from the theoretical values. The experiments have no meaning because using the voltages and currents in the experiment i don't see what the experiment wants to show. I have to modify that values to see something interesting.

A1: The Idcm formula has been verified and it is correct. It fits the experimental measurements in the operating conditions of Exp 1 and 2. The experimental plots shown in the Experiment Book confirm the validity of the formula. Can you please specify the conditions that you are seeing the discrepancy between the formula and the experiments?

Q2: In Experiment 3 the instructions are wrong because without J7 (according to TPS55340 manual) the regulator doesn't work.
A2: This is true. There is an error in the instructions that has to be corrected. This will be done shortly.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
