    Lou, Both devices have passed temperature cycle -65C to 150C, so both can support a storage temperature of -65C. Both devices have been characterized to -55C, so both can operate at -55C, but cold temperature start-up can not be guarenteed at to -65C.

    The TPS5450 uses inernal compensation. The output filter should be chosen so the LC corner and ESR zero align with the internal compensation poles and zeros.     The TPS5450 will work equally well with shielded or unshielded inductors as far as teh dc/dc conversion process is concerned. From a system level, you may find that there is quite a bit more radiated emissions. If you can live with that then unshielded nductor is not a problem.
