tps65381 datasheet question

Hi,

In section 4.16.11 SAFETY_FUNC_CFG Register of the datasheet it describes D[3] WD_RST_EN. The describe for when this bit is set to 0 referes to NO_WRST (bit D4) in SAFETY_CHECK_CTRL register. When I look at SAFETY_CHECK_CTRL register, D4 is reserved and there is no NO_WRST.

Where is NO_WRST? Or what should the WD_RST_EN refer to?

Michael,

We are in the process of updating the datasheet for that device. There are a few changes to the bit names and descriptions for better clarification of functionality. I've attached one page of the planned update below and I believe that this will help you understand the behavior of the WD_RST_EN bit.

I've come to the same conclusion in my application and don't know how to move forward...

I'm trying to get the PMIC to transition from the ACTIVE state to the SAFE state in the event of a WDT failure. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

The current datasheet refers to the following highlighted method of transitioning from ACTIVE to SAFE state:

With the removal of NO_WRST is there any method of making this transition in the event of a WDT failure?

Didn't really find a solution. Will move away from this part in the next prototype.

Mike,

The first goal of the watchdog it to look over the uP in the system and the first response if enabled is to reset the uP upon a WD failure to try and get the back on track. If the reset of the uP doesn't work the plan is then to further trap the system. Is your question a broader how does the device and system respond to a WD failure or do you really want to immediately go to SAFE state upon the first WD failure?
