TPS65910 Power calculation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65910, AM3352

Hi,

We have identified TPS65910 for our requirement.

We want to know below details of TPS65910 for calculation:

  1. Nominal and maximum input current
  2. Nominal output current by each rail
  3. Efficiency of each power rail (in datasheet efficiency is mentioned only for VIO, VDD1, VDD2 and VDD3 rails)
  4. Average efficieny of TPS65910
  5. Nominal and maximum current consumption by TPS65910

  • Hi Pranoti,

There are a few different TPS65910 devices, and they each operate a little differently depending on the boot mode. Most of these measurements will also vary depending on the loads of the individual regulators, so we might not be able to give very specific estimate for these. Can I ask what your requirement is?

  • Hi Richard,

    Thanks for your reply.

We are planning to use TPS65910 PMIC to powerup MPU AM3352 and other external interfaces for which we need to know nominal output current by each rail and nominal input current of TPS65910.

Also, we need mentioned parameters for thermal analysis.

    Regards,

    Pranoti

  • Hi Pranoti,

The TPS65910A31 will probably be the best device, and the regulator current will be load dependant, as in how you are using the AM335 and what other loads you need to supply.

Maximum regulator currents are below, but nominal currents will be application specific and likely well below these values.

    VDD1: 1.5A

    VDD2: 1.5A

    VDD3: 100mA

    VIO: 1A

    VDIG1: 300mA

    VDIG2: 300mA

    VAUX1: 300mA

    VAUX2: 300mA

    VAUX33: 150mA

    VMMC: 300mA

    VPLL: 50mA

    VDAC: 150mA

    VRTC: 20mA

  • Hi Richard,

    Thank you for your inputs.

Current values you have mentioned are same as in datasheet.

I want to do thermal analyasis, for which i need to know avargae efficiency, input current and output current.

If we dont have these values, please guide me how can I proceed.

    Regards,

    Pranoti

  • Hi Pranoti,

You will need to estimate or directly measure your load currents. The currents above indicate the maximum load currents expected on the regulators for worst case scenario estimations. As far as nominal perfrormance, you will have to either estimate current consumption for your rails, by adding up all the loads' nominal current requirements, or measuring real performance once softare is up and running on the AM335x.

Efficiency for LDOs can be calculated using (Iout*Vout) / [(Iout+Iq)*Vi]
