About power products for Skylake

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650830

Hello,

(Question1)
Can TI provide some power products for the INTEL IMVP8?
I'm looking for a power supply that can be used in common to Skylake-S and Skylake-H.

(Question2)
  Can TPS650830 use for Skylake-U?
If it can use for Skylake-U,do you have any notes?

Best regards,

Manabu Ito

  • HI Manabu,

The Skylake TPS650830 can be used to power Skylake U, H and S in addition to the Y processors. You can use the Skylake power design guide from Intel, on their portal, for the current requirements and size the external components accordingly for your application. Note that you will probably need less current output than what is rated in the guide document due to your application needing less or more peripherals like less USB ports for example.

Since, the TPS650830 is controller based design you can easily move from lower Y currents to higher H and S values. The sequence and power good signal interface is the same.

For the IMVP8 we do not have a recommendation from TI.
  • Note, if you would like you can email me your schematic and I will review it for you once you are ready.
  • Hello Michael-san

    Thanks for your answer.
    I have one more qestion.
    Please tell me.

Can the TPS650830 provide power supply other than the Vcore of Skylake?
I think TPS650830 can't provide power supply to Vcore of Skylake.
But, I believe TPS650830 can provide power to other than Vcore of Skylake.

If this is not right please teach me the correct situation.

    Best regards,

    Manabu Ito

  • The TPS650830 is meant for "Rest of Power" on Skylake and Kabylake. VCORE is not supported by the TPS650830. The TPS650830 does supply the following rails:

    • V1.00A
    • VPRIMCORE
    • VCCIO
    • V3.3A_DSW
    • V3.3A_PCH
    • V5A_DS3
    • V1.8A
    • V1.8U
    • VDDQ (DDR memory)
    • VTT (DDR memory termination)

It also monitors V3.3A_PCH, V3.3S, V1.8S, V1.00S, V1.8U/2.5U and VCCIO if merged rail option is used.

These rails are the "Rest of Power" system for Skylake and Kabylake.

  • Hello Michael-san

    Thanks for your quick reply.
    We settled this matter.
