TPS65094x Rail Verification

Question from field:

For verification purposes, the customer wants to turn on each buck one-by-one. Is there a way to do that with TPS650941 or will the state machine always run through as programmed?

  • Hello,

For the TPS65094x family, there is no way to enable rails while the PMICEN pin is held low. This pin holds the device in full reset.

When pulling PMICEN high, BUCK1 (VNN), BUCK4 (V1P8A), and BUCK5 (V1P24A) will become enabled. BUCK1 can be disabled by writing a '0' to the BUCK1_DISABLEB bit. Unfortunately, BUCK4 and BUCK5 cannot be disabled. One option would be to mask their power fault in the PWR_FAULT_MASK register and remove PVIN4/ PVIN5 power, though the rail will still be enabled so there will be some additional Iq still.

    After PMICEN is high, BUCK2 (VCCGI), BUCK3 (VCCRAM), BUCK6 (VDDQ), LDOA1, LDOA2, LDOA3, SWA1, and SWB1_2 (V1P8x) can be enabled using the bits in VR_CTRL2, VR_CTRL3, and LDOA1CTRL registers.
