Activate TPS65910 without push button - hardware changes required?

Hi,

I'm working with AM335x processors power- supplied by TPS65910A3A1. In my configuration (see attachment) the PMIC gets activated through an external push- button.
Now I want to achieve that the PMIC activates itself, when my board is supplied with power. In the datasheet (SWCS046U) I have read that DEV_ON control bit has to bet set to 1 or PWRHOLD signal should be high level.
Is there a possibility to program PMIC device registers or are there other options to activate the TPS6510x without any hardware changes and without the push- button?

Best regards,
Luca

  • Hi Luca,

This would require a hardware change.

'Device power-on enable conditions' in Section 6.3.1 of the datasheet outlines the available enable conditions for the PMIC. A visual representation is shown in Figure 6-1 in the top right corner for the "POWER ON enable" logic diagram.

The feature you require is defined by the VMBHI_IT_MSK bit within the EEPROM registers, and these values cannot be re-programmed.

The TPS65910Axx devices are configured to ignore this automatic start feature and require a separate start condition, defined in the User's Guide by the second to last register in the EEPROM tables.
