TPS65218: Connection for TPS65218 and AM335x

Part Number: TPS65218

Hi,

I have one question for connection for TSP65218 and AM335x.

According to the Figure 1 in Application Note " Powering the Am335x/AM437x with TPS65218",  AC_DET pin is connected to system power(5.5V).

But, according to the 7.3.1.1 Power-Up Sequencing in the TPS65218 datasheet, it is wrriten in the below.

 From the OFF state:
– The push-button is pressed (falling edge on PB) OR
– The AC_DET pin is pulled low OR
– The PWR_EN is asserted (driven to high-level) OR
– The main power is connected (IN_BIAS) and AC_DET is grounded AND
– The device is not in undervoltage lockout (UVLO) or overtemperature shutdown (OTS).

As to the above comment, AC_DET pin is grounded.

Which is correct? Please let me know correct handling of AC_DET pin.

I appreciate your quick reply.

Best regards,

Michi

  • Hi Michi Yama,

You should tie AC_DET pin to system power (5.5v) as shown in the connection diagram for the TPS65218 and AM335x. Also, you should follow the " Powering the Am335x/AM437x with TPS65218" guide to ensure the timing and sequencing requirements meet those of the AM335x/AM437x family of processors. The power-up sequence is triggered by either the PB, AC_DET, or PWR_EN pin from the off state. Any one of these triggers can be used to initiate the power-up sequence. Also, make sure that the rails you are sequencing have an assigned strobe otherwise they will not be part of the power-up and power-down sequence.
