TPS650830: VR1 us unused

Hi,

 

Customer plan to not use VR1 from TPS650830 due to layout concern. They will use an external buck to replace VR1. What can they do to achieve this? Is it ok to make it as below or there’s a better way?

  • Use PGA to enable the external BUCK.

  • Configure V11_FLTmsK=MV100APG=1

  • How to connect VR1 related pins? Which ones can be unconnected and which pins should be grounded?

    You are following the correct method.

    PGA/Slp_sus can enable external Buck. You will need to mask MV100APG to remove rail from power good tree. Please follow list below of pin connections.

    VBSTVR1 ---- Float
    DRVHVR1 ---- Float
    SWVR1 ---- GND
    DRVLVR1 ---- Float
    PGNDVR1 ---- GND
    FBVR1P ---- GND
    FBVR1N ---- GND
    VREGVR1 ---- Connect to LDO5V, no cap needed
    ILIMVR1 ---- GND
    ENVR1 ---- GND
    PGVR1 ---- Float
