TPS6590374/TPS6590375/TPS6590376/TPS6590377  what's the difference?

    TPS6590376 and TPS6590377 are the latest revision.  The difference is described in section 3 of the TPS659037 User's Guide.  They have different power mappings to the processor: TPS6590376 is designed for AM572x EVM configuration, and TPS6590377 is designed for AM571x IDK configuration.

    TPS6590374 and TPS6590375 are older revisions of the PMIC with lower MPU and CORE boot voltage.  The AM572x boot voltage specification was increased, and therefore the PMIC boot voltage was adjusted to match it.

  • I'm planning on using the AM5726 or AM5728 MPUs. To be clear, are you saying that the TMS6590376 should be used when the processor will be more heavily loaded and/or more stringent conditions occur. The TMS6590377 should be used when less loading and/or less stringent conditions occur. Is this correct?

    It should be the opposite. TPS6590376 has one one supply for DSPEVE+GPU+IVA combined. This means it can support uses cases where these rails combined need up to 4A. If you need more current than this, TPS6590377 has one output for each supply, so it can support higher-current use cases.

  • Thank you for the prompt reply. Under what situations would you expect to require the TPS6590377? Would the TPS6590376 be used for AM571x designs and the TPS6590377 for AM572x designs?

    It really depends on the application, since TPS6590376 supports 4A for DSPEVE + GPU + IVA, and there are many combinations of frequency and utilization which could affect the max load current for the combined domains. But both devices will support AM572x and AM571x.

    My suggestion is to use existing power estimation tools for your application, and see if you need more than 4A. Based on this you can decide which device works best for you.
    Or, if you're unsure of the total power consumption and need to support maximum utilization of the SoC, then use TPS6590377.
