TPS65381A-Q1: questions about STANDBY and RESET mode

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPS65381.

At this time, he has questions about STANDBY and RESET mode.

Could you please advise?

---

(Q1)

When an error occurs in TPS65381, and then go to STANDBY state.
If CANHWU is GND stable and IGN is pulled up, unless IGN become Low to High, it remains STANDBY mode.
Is it correct?

(Q2)

When transfering to RESET State due to an error,
does it make a normal transition regardless of the logic of IGN?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello, thank you for posting your question on the TPS65381 in the e2e forum. Your thread has been assigned to the expert within TI, who will reply to your question as soon as possible and attempt to resolve your issue
  • Shinichi,

A1: Both IGN and CANWU are level-sensitive and are deglitched with a respective deglitch time. Either of them meets the wake-up requirement (high level), device will re-wake-up immediately, even after an event that causes the transition to STANDBY state. So no Low to High transition is needed to re-wake up, only a high level.  Otherwise, the device will stay in standby mode.

However, the following conditions would prevent the transition from the STANDBY state to the RESET state even if a wake-up request (IGN or CANWU with a high level) is pending:

    – BG_ERR1
    – BG_ERR2
    – VCP17_OV
    – VCP12_OV
    – AVDD_VMON_ERR
    – EE_CRC_CHK fails

A2. Your question is a little unclear, but we will try to answer it.  Device reaction to an error that causes RESET state will depend on the IGN and CANWU pin levels.  Assuming CANWU or IGN is still high, the device will transition to RESET state, assuming the fault is no longer present the device will be in RESET state for the reset extension time then transition to DIAGNOSIC state as normal. If CANWU and IGN are low the device would transition to STANDBY state.

You can find more information about wake-up/states transition in Datasheet 5.3.7, 5.4.21.

Hopefully this helps, if you have further question or need further clarifications please continue to ask on this thread.

  • Hi Shinichi-san,
