TPS65916: What is the difference between the TPS659161 (OTP 0x38) and the TPS659162 (OTP 0x45)?

Part Number: TPS65916
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5716

There's a new User's guide which seems to be related to the "162", but the "162" version is not available? Very confusing!!

There is nothing in the datasheet, nor the user's guide, that gives any reason of the difference.

We are about to release a new design which use the TPS65916x for the AM5716.

Thanks.

  • Hello Jasmin,

We are in the process of updating the document to include this information. The only change in TPS659162 was made in the power-down sequence, moving SMPS5 (DDR) from slot 3 to slot 2. The delay between slots 2 and 3 was also extended from 500us to 1ms.

We recommend using TPS659162 for new designs because it more closely aligns with the AM571x power-down sequence requirement. While we are still supporting TPS659161 in production, it is not recommended for new designs.

    Regards,
    Karl
  • Thanks Karl.
Do you know when TI plan to start the production of the TPS659162? Currently, there is no stock on the market, neither at TI.

    Jasmin
  • Hi Jasmin,

Sorry, I need to correct the original info. TPS659162 is planned for 1Q 2018 release. You can still get samples of TPS659161 until then, and you may be able to get small quantities of prototype TPS659162 material through distribution or through local TI support.

    Regards,
    Karl
