[FAQ] TPS65072EVM-430: TPS65072 EVM

Part Number: TPS65072EVM-430

I would like to purchase TPS65072EVM to get exposure on PMIC .When i am trying to get the user manual of TPS6507X EVM software i could not able to get.And i would like to know what kind of tests i can perform on this EVM Battery Charger.I could see on the evaluation software, there is no information on Head room measurements and Trimming measurements of Battery charger. Please help on this.

  • Hello Udaya,
the User Guide is found on the EVM-product folder: www.ti.com/.../slvu291 .
Required software is found in the product folder of the IC: www.ti.com/.../slic013
I hope this will help your evaluation?
    Best regards,
    Frank
  • Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply,i can get that EVM User manual and software, but i could not able to get EVM software user manual(SLVA418 document).Apart from this i need help on what kind of tests we can perform on Battery charger part of TPS65072EVM.There is no information regarding Head room measurements in TPS65072X EVM software .

    Thanks,
    Udayalakshmi
  • Udaya,
The EVM gives you the capability to test the TPS65072x in a lot of ways. All of the regulators are running for you and the battery charger is available. Follow the EVM documentation to connect the battery, COMMS and power up the EVM. This charger uses a standard Lithium charger profile. See Figure 28 on page 27 of the datasheet. Riset will set the charge current (external resistor). The pre-charge current and the termination current is determined by the charge current. (the default ratio can be changed in the registers)
I am not aware of the term Head room. However if you look at the charger registers (copied below) in the data sheet you can set or change many values that are related to the charger including the charge voltage for your battery.

The software will allow you to change any of the registers in this device.

    ADDRESS NAME SHORT DESCRIPTION
    0x03h CHGCONFIG0 Battery Charger Configuration
    0x04h CHGCONFIG1 Battery Charger Configuration
    0x05h CHGCONFIG2 Battery Charger Configuration
    0x06h CHGCONFIG3 Battery Charger Configuration

The reason you have not found a separate documentation on this is because it's all in the data sheet. A full breakdown of all of the registers and their values are listed. Then you can program the registers as needed for test and evaluation of the charger.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
  • Thanks for your reply,in User manual its mentioned USB to GPIO interface for I2C communication, for this can i use Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter. And 5 V at 3 A is required to operate this EVM,is it possible to use 5V at 2A .

    Thanks,

  • Udaya,
The software uses very specific API drivers for the GPIO interface that TI uses. The Aardvark is not compatible with these drives, so the software will not communicate with the Aardvark.
A lower current power adaptor can be used, but will limit the total output current of the device. If the total current you wish to test with is below your adaptor current limit then you can use that adaptor.
