TPS65070: tps650701

Please confirm you are using TPS650701 variant of the TPS65070 generic part number. The TPS650701 is not detailed in the online datasheet.

Can you also attach a block diagram showing the connections between the PMIC and the NUC972 processor?

All variants of the TPS65070x use the DCDC3 rail for Core power and most processors require the core rail power-on first in the power-up sequence.

Figure 34. State Machine in the datasheet shows that when AC -OR- USB power is applied, the PMIC will wait for POWER_ON=1 to start sequence if PB_IN is not pressed. If PB_IN push-button is pressed, the PMIC will not wait for POWER_ON=1.
When Battery Power is connected, then the push-button must be pressed so that PB_IN=0 (falling edge occurs).

  Can I pull up POWER_ON pin because ,if my processor will not turn on then how can it make  POWER_ON pin of PMIC high (if this pin is     connected to gpio of processor)

>> In our application first there is AC OR USB voltage is given to make system run and charge battery , but when AC OR USB is not presented it should be direct switch to battery .I have shown push-button in schematic but while running our application we are not using it. will this possible without using push button???

Yes, the MCU/processor should flip the POWER_ON signal to High when it is done booting. However, in your schematic there is an RC delay connected to POWER_ON. If the PMU is not turning on when AC || USB power is applied, then this RC circuit needs to be adjusted. My assumption is the POWER_ON should be slower, since the processor cannot boot immediately.

The datasheet says this: "POWER_ON pin needs to be pulled HIGH by the application processor to keep the system in ON-state".


If the push-button is not used, the PMU cannot receive a wake-up event when ONLY battery power is supplied.

Can I change power on sequence by using EN_DC-DC pin ? because NUC972 requires different P-ON sequence..

The datasheet says on page 34:

"10.3.11 Enable

To start up each converter independently, the device has a separate enable pin for each of the DC-DC

converters. In order to enable any converter with its enable pins, the TPS6507x devices need to be in ON-state

by pulling PB_IN=LOW or POWER_ON=HIGH.

The sequencing option programmed needs to be DCDC_SQ[2..0] = 101."

The details of each TPS6507x part # and the DCDC_SQ[2..0] settings is explained in Table 10 on page 64 of the datasheet, while application schematics and the corresponding timing sequences for multiple processors are shown in Figures 50-61.

I can confirm on the TPS65070EVM-430 that for TPS65070 the DCDC1 buck is controlled by the EN1 pin. Bucks DCDC2 and DCDC3 are sequenced automatically and the EN2/EN3 pins are ignored.
