TPS65916: Can TPS65916 be used for Renesas processor, R8A77450?

Part Number: TPS65916

 Hello guys,

One of our customers is considering using TPS65916 for Renesas processor, R8A77450.

 I attached a R8A77450 information.

Also you can see other information on the following URL.

 1. RZ/G1E Module with Renesas R8A77450

https://elinux.org/RZ-G/Boards/SK-RZG1E

2.  Renesas RZ/G1M Starter Kit board

www.emtrion.de/.../emcon-rz-g1e-65.html

This board uses Dialog Semiconductor, DA9603

 DA9603 datasheet

www.dialog-semiconductor.com/.../da9063_datasheet_2v1.pdf

Our customer asked us several questions as the follows.

(1) Can R8A77450 be used for R877450? Or has TI supported the processor by TPS65916?

(2) If the answer for (1) is yes, does TI have any document about TPS65916 schematic and BOM?

(3) OTP data in TPS65916 can be programmed by user?

(4) If the answer for (2) is yes, could you tell me how to program the OTPs?

Could you please answer the above questions.

Your answer would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Kazuya,

Thank you for providing all the useful links. From my interpretation, the TPS65916 could be a match for this Renesas processor. We would need the expected current for each rail to be absolutely sure.

There are a few things to keep in mind:
    1. We do not have an existing OTP configuration for this line of Renesas processors (and no schematics/BOM already created)
    2. You would need a custom OTP configuration of the TPS65916 to support this processor, which needs to internally be approved (see your TI sales rep for more information on this)
    3. OTP configuration is only done in the TI factory and cannot be programmed by the user.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Nastasha,

    Thank you for your reply.

We got the processor datasheet as the follow.

    RZ/G Series User’s Manual: Hardware
    www.renesas.com/.../r01uh0543ej0100-rzg.pdf

I think the device requirments for the power line are on page 3931/4019 ~.

For the processor, SMPS1 and 2 of TPS65916x must be programmed to 3.3V. I think SMPS1/2 of TPS659161/62/63 are not 3.3V.
So we would need to request TI to produce new part number with special OTP program data for the processor if we support the processor with TPS65916 .

Can I ask you a question? My question is the follow.

What is the number of new device needed to produce a new part number device? Is it more than 100kU/year? 1MU/year?
If you have any idea about this, could you please tell me?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Kazuya,

Please reach out to your TI sales rep for this information. There are other factors that go into whether a new part number can be created (such as timeline, etc.). Your sales representative can put you in contact with the right people for helping you through this process.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Nastasha,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I understood. I will ask TI Japan sales person it.

    Best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Nastasha,

I'm sorry for my question after the resolving reply.

Could you please recommend me any TI PMIC device can be used for RZ/G Series of Renesas except TPS65916?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Kazuya,

I recommend using our search tool: www.ti.com/.../products.html

I do not know the current requirements for your design so it is difficult to predict which solutions could be a fit for you.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
  • Nastasha,

Thank you very much for your reply. I see. I will check the required current value and search the best fit PMIC using the search tool.

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya
