tps65950 power consumption in battery backup

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65950

I have a question on the power consumption of the tps65950 when in Backup mode.

In table 2.2 of the data sheet the typical consumption is stated as:2.25 * 3.2 = 7.2 μW, which is  a current draw of  2.25uA.

Table 4.1 states the max current for VBRTC is 100uA.

Is VBRTC the voltage used by the part in Backup mode?

What should be used for the Backup mode current draw for selecting my backup battery?

  • Yes VBRTC is the voltage in backup mode, when the devie goes to back up mode it takes over VBRTC.

ON page 58 it is desctibed at the power consumption when there is no resource on and there is no load on BRTC the consumtion is 7.2uW . Back up current comes from the coin cell battery that is connected to backup pin. you need to make sure that backup battery can sustain this current for some time to keep RTC data alive.

  • Puneet,

How does this power consumption change over temperature range as the 7.2uW is just a typical value?

Also you did not explain the value of 100uA from chart 4.1 for VBRTC.  If VBRTC is only used in Backup mode, under what conditions can it use that much current?

    Thanks
