TPS65930 as USB Host Controller

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65930, OMAP3530, TPS65950, DM3730

We need to be a USB Host Controller and we are planning to use the TPS65930.

Can the USB transceiver in the TPS65930 be used in conjunction with a Host Controller on the OMAP3530?  I would think it would work since the transceiver has a UTMI/ULPI interface which is generic and not Host or Device specific.

Thank you.

  • Hi Saied,

Are you asking if you can connect TPS65950 USB interface to OMAP USB ports other than port0?

OMAP USB port0 is connected to TPS65950 so you can use USB OTG function. This connection also supports the traditional serial interfaces. You can configure for serial interface using ULPI.

I have not seen any implementation where TPS65950 USB interface is connected to other than port0. Connecting to port0 provides you the capability of OTG. Even if you do not want to use OTG, you can still connect to this port.

    I hope this helps.

    Gandhar.

  • Hi, I know that this is an old post but I would like to press for a more direct answer to the original question.

I am already working with a board where the ULPI interface on the TPS65950 is connected to port1 on the DM3730. We are trying to debug issues by first determining if this is even a valid configuration.

Is this true, or must the ULPI interface be connected to port0? Thanks.

  • Hi, please post this question into OMAP forum as port assignment does not depend on TPS65950.

    Best regards, Alain.
