USB Charging Detectors TPS2540, TPS2541, TPS2543, TPS2511

Just noticed there is now a TPS2546, please include this in the compatibility list

I have also noticed that there is a document http://www.ti.com/lit/sg/slyt509/slyt509.pdf that has a useful table compairing

these devices. The table states that the TPS2543 has a 1.2V/1.2V - this is not correct, or is there a product variant being TPS2543/Q100 ?

If the application is for a stand alone USB charger (DCP auto), will the TPS2511 provide that same level of compatibility to mobile devices as the TPS2546?

What is the difference between the TPS2511 and TPS2511-Q1?

TPS2546 being the newest charging device will support the widest range of both older and new portable devices.

• Devices with the "Q" suffix are automotive rated versions.
• TPS2546, TPS2544, TPS2543, TPS2540/40A/41/41A (newest to oldest) can support USB 2.0 data pass through as well as port protection. SDP, CDP, DCP and varying divider mode(s).
• TPS2511 is the best choice for stand alone charging (such as wall adapter) supporting either 5W or 10W devices (by orienting the D+/D- lines).
• Regarding the slyt509.pdf charger table, you are correct that TPS2543/TPS2543Q do NOT support 1.2V mode. We will have this corrected.

As far as the compatibilty list goes, we can check with our China team when they return from holiday.

Hi David,

While TPS2511 is best suited for stand alone charger applications (it also has cable compensation), since TPS2546 is newer it will provide more mobile device coverage/compatiblity and can be used in a stand alone application. I can also say that we have TPS2513 coming out in ~1 month and this can provide 2x charging ports w/o the power switch (pair TPS2513 up with TPS2561A dual power switch). TPS2513 compatibility list will add more devices to TPS2511.

Is there a prelim datasheet for the TPS2513?

For a standalone charger the TPS2511 and TPS2546 seem to have the same identification abilities
according to the table in the.pdf mentioned above

I know this is an old post but can you email the charging list to me as well?  Do you know what older media players are covered, specifically the ones with the internal 2.5" hard drives?

Hi there. Im testing a TPS2511 in a DCP wall type use and have found with the new IOS 7 devices it shows an "accessory not supported" message on the device.  Is there work around or does the TPS2513 have the same issues?

I not it does charge the device but you have to plug it in a few times and choose "ok" running a Iphone 4 with IOS7

We tried TPS2511 with some IOS7 devices, don't see the probelm you saw.

What's your DCP Wall product's output voltage?

Our previous experience of "accessory not supported" was caused by high voltage, generally >5.25V is not allowed for charging Apple device.

I has not done it again since and seems to work fine. It did it few times trying to charge when the phone was first upgraded to IOs7 then subsequent connections worked fine.   We are running dead on 5V 

Seems fine now and had no reports from customers.

I received the email from you with the list, much appreciated. I am a bit disappointed that there is no information in it as far as what was the charge current for the tested devices. Was there any pass/fail criteria that you guys used? How do you know that the handshaking was successful with each passed device, instead of just defaulting to .5A current?

In our tps251x list, "pass" means:

1. Correct Charging Icon on display.

2. Charging current is very close to OEM charger. 

The reason why we didn't list the charging current is because charging current can be different by Vdroop, DC voltage, cable and display on/off. 

For example, use same tps2511 with DC5V,  without using its /CS pin for compensation, charging current to iPad3 is 1.7A. 

Whike use tps2511's /CS to compensate 200-300mV for high current, to same iPad3, it can be up to 2A.
