TPS24720 or TPS24751 operation close to 18V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS24720, TPS24751

I am looking for protection of a device against battery-reversal, over-voltage, under-voltage and over-current. Since the device will operate unattended retry is mandatory. The load to be protected can sustain 22V continuously and 30V transients and will draw about 2A. Over-voltage trip level would be ~20V.

The power source is a LiPo battery-pack that may - depending on pack configuration - reach up to 17V when fully-charged. However, under load the pack will quickly drop to around 14V.

Both TPS24720 and TPS24751 provide all required protection features. However, their maximum recommended operating voltage is only 18V which feels dangerously close to the 17V maximum battery voltage. However, if I understand correctly the devices should be able to protect against continuous voltages up to 30V.

Is operation of these parts tolerable under this conditions and what precautions (snubbers, TVS, etc.) should be used?
