Hi there,

I am reviewing some of the "old" designs of our products and I've noticed that TPS2110 is used for power switching and limiting the currents as low as 100mA.

My understanding is that TPS2110 limits the current in the range of 310mA-750mA, so 100mA current limit is out of the spec.

I would appreciate if somebody could clarify whether TPS2110 still operates correctly for the low current limit of 100mA (Rlim=2k2)

Hi Goran,

The TPS2110 will still operate correctly at lower current levels but the current limit accuracy will decrease. As long as your "old designs" are still working, then there should be no worry.

Eric,

We have been using the TPS2110 for several years now without using the current limit. I would like to change our design to include a 5.11K ohm current sense resistor for a current limit of 49mA in a circuit that has a max current draw of 20mA. You mentioned to Goran that the current limit accuracy would decrease at lower current limit ranges. Are there any curves available on the current limit accuracy outside of the datasheet's 310mA to 750mA published current limit adjustment range?

Hello Jerry,

Unfortunately, I was not able to track down any test data under the conditions you've mentioned. You may just have to check out this functionality over a couple of units within your existing system.

Does TI have data given an RILIM value of 1.25K? Specifically min/max data as it relates to current limit?
