Max. number of MOSFETs (or Max. total gate capacitance) can be parallel with one LM5050-1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5050-1

Hi,

My product requires high current and low loss, and will have to parallel i.e. 5 MOSFETs with LM5050-1.

May I ask what is the maximum number of MOSFETs can be parallel with one LM5050-1? Or what is the total gate capacitance limit whereby LM5050-1 can drive?

I'm concerned that during turn OFF, the sink current to discharge the gate capacitance might damage the LM5050-1, having too many MOSFETs in parallel.

Thank you.

  • There should be no LM5050-1 damage concerns with turning off multiple MOSFETs in parallel. The GATE pin sink current is 2.8A typically and the turn off time will slow down with more MOSFETs in parallel. The issue may be that it is possible that during the ON-OFF transition current sharing across the parallel MOSFETs may cause one or two of the FETs to see the majority of the stress.
