[ TPS2546 ] Production Test Procedure

Hi,

My customer has been considering the any of good ways to check whether TPS2546 works correctly or not.

Here is little background, my customer is going to use TPS2546 with CDP mode (1111) in conjunction with microcontoroller which receive high speed signals (D+/D-) via TPS2546.

In their system, they don't use STATUS pin, so actually not many ways to check by which mode the system is detected by portable equipment connected. It's assumed that the only way is to measure the charge current externally.

What they would like to figure out is the way to check TPS2546 work correctly from out side of system in simple way. it's really helpful, if you can share some kind of ideas which can be used for their production test as well.

Please let me know, if my statement is not clear.

Thanks,
Ken
  • Tanaka-san,

To test TPS2546 under CDP doesn't have very straight forward easy way.

As it's difficult to have a simple test tool to test the CDP handshaking, primary detection, which is sending a 0.6V pulse on DP and detect the response 0.6V in DM.

I think customer can use the same test procedure for normal USB SDP board. E.g, a USB disk to check whether the headunit can do data communication with it (like, read music files from it).

  • Hi Vincent,

Long time no talking, hope everything is fine on you!
I'm sorry for adding new query on old post.

If we use USB disk with some musics with customer board, yes, we can figure out whether the port (TPS2546) is CDP/SDP or DCP by detecting data communication.

However, it's not easy to figure out whether the port is CDP or SDP, because  both can support data communication. DO you have any ideas the simple way to check port (TPS2546) is configured as CDP?

This comes from production test engineer, so it's not preferred to perform current measurement.

Thank you for your support in advance.
    Regards,
    Ken
