TPS2540 for OTG interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2540

Hi,

We are considering using the TPS2540 on an embedded product to help facilitate with all the USB power arbitration.

It seems obvious that this product would work well if it was simply inserted between the host microcontroller - and the down stream USB device.

My question is, will this IC( TPS2540) still allow to pass through USB communication in the instance that the USB Host becomes a USB Device? (ie: In the case where the product is a USB OTG product).

The answer is not obvious to me - and so I really need some expert help please!

Cheers,
Terry

  • Hi Terry, TPS2540 has two modes for data communication, SDP and CDP.
Difference is CDP can add CDP handshaking on USB port, after CDP handshaking, it will behave same like SDP pass through the data llines. So it can be used in OTG mode, no impact on device or host communication.
