TPS25940L / Undershoot at Hot-Short

Hi Everyone,

I know that the minimum absolute maximum rating of OUT pin is -0.3V, but the example waveform in Figure 41 shows large undershoot lower than -0.3V at hot-short event. Is this stress cause of damage to OUT pin? Please give your opinion.

Best Regards,

Sonoki / Japan Disty

  • Hello Sonoki-san,
Yes, If you closely observe the graph, the time for which the this undershoot happened, was for few micro seconds, and the device can survive bit larger negative transient for short time. no problems.
device should not be operated for lower than -0.3V for continuously.
we suggest you to look at our TPS25940EVM where we used shottky diode at the output, which helps to meet such negative transients in the event of output short circuit and hot insertion and make the robust solution.
    Hope this answer your question.

    Regards
