TPS23861 - Support Passive POE?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23861, TPS23861EVM-612

Hello TI,

I have a customer starting a new design.  He needs POE PSE capability.

We're looking at the TPS23861 and have some questions:

1: Can this device support passive POE?

2: If it can support passive POE can it do it at 24 or 48V?

3: Can I test the demo board in passive POE?

Thought is it can be done if we put the device in control and monitor mode. In this mode all controls are under micro controller!

I look forward to your answers.

Dan

  • TPS23861 can support automatic mode (no host control required) or semi-auto mode (turn on by external micro-controller). The TPS23861EVM-612 can be operated in both modes using a TI GUI (download from TPS23861 product folder on the web).

TPS23861 operates in 44-57V systems which is standard POE.

Can you explain further what you mean by passive POE? The EVM can accept an ethernet cable with data only and then add the POE to the data (if that is what you are referring to).
