TPS25942A maximum power dissipation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25942A

Hello,

I'd like to know which is the maximum power dissipation for TPS25942A. Room temperature that it will be used is from 10°C to 55°C.

I guess that maximum power dissipation is around 100W, due to its voltage and current limits: 18V*5.62A=101.16W.

Thanks

  • Other questions:

As for our application maximum ambient temperature for TPS25942A is around 50°C, can I consider for power values, as an approximation, an average between 25°C and 85°C curves in figure 30?

Datasheet section 8.1 says that absolute maximum rating for junction temperature is 150°C, but datasheet also says that thermal shutdown is activated when junction exceeds 160°C, which one is wrong?
  • Hi Luiz,

The recommended max steady state power dissipation allowed in TPS25942A at 50 degree C ambient is (125-50)/38.1 = 1.96W.

Figure 30, shows the power dissipation vs thermal shutdown time (time taken by the chip to hit the thermal shutdown threshold). For 50 degree ambient the curve will be in between the 25 and 85 degree C.

Abs max  contionous junction temperature is 150 degree C and thermal shutdown threshold is at 160 degree C.

After thermal shutdown event, the device shuts off,  cools down by 12 degree C and the device remains off for futher 128msec (re-try time) eventually reducing the steady state junction temperature below 150 degree C.

    Regards,
