Hello,
When would I want to use the LM5050-1 ORing high-side controller instead of a gate driver or LM5060?
The FET will be pushing 8A continuously, so it will take a considerable amount of current to charge the gate.
To my understanding, if the FET is being used as a switch and switches power from a supply to a load, the ORing controller may work best, especially if FET turn on time is not important. It has the internal charge pump which keeps the FET on.
On the other hand, the UCC27531 can source more current to charge the gate, useful when FET turn on time must be fast, but will require some external biasing circuitry to hold the FET ON.
The LM5060 would fall into the same camp as the LM5050-1, and would be best if more protection circuitry was necessary when being powered by an 'unclean' power supply.
So in the situation where timing was not critical, would the best and easiest to implement be the LM5050-1?
Thanks!
