TPS2378 ORing design considerations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2378

Hi,

Customer has an adapter 19.5V DC input which is ORing to PoE.

Customer has question below for the TPS2378 EVM design:

-- When adapter plug in or plug out when PoE is served, will PD has the risk to get reboot/reset due to voltage drop while TPS2378 switch off and on? Or any other issues for the ORing design?

Best regards,

Randy

  • Hi Randy,

This is an option2 application. And there are some limitations.
1.Adapter hot-plug maybe cause inrush current. it will have some risk.
2.If your design is for adapter preference, and the adapter power is removed.
PoE need to do detection and class, it will be restarted.
3.If your design is for PoE preference, and you remove the PoE power during the system still have load.
Power is delivered by adapter. The converter maybe restart because of inrush current, it depend on your design and adapter.

    Regards,
    Ben
