TPS2115A

Guru 13485 points

Customer got TPS2115AEVM . See below feedback and advise:

I started testing this EVB. Unfortunately, the component have been damaged during my tests: IN2 input is not functioning now. When applying 5V voltage to IN2, the output shows near 0.5V and component is overheating.

IN1 is still working OK. The damage was happen when I was commutating inputs under the load current 1.2A.

Early, I observed another malfunction (?) with this component. When the power source (lab PSU) on one of their inputs was running into current limit mode due to overload (0.5A), the component was extremely overheating and held their out near 0V. Respective input in this case was getting voltage about 3.5V (changing due to current limit). I made few attempts to understand this phenomena, but was forced to leave it as is, in order not to kill the part.

Please, help me to understand the reason for these two malfunctions.

  • Hi Eli,

We do apologize for the late response. It seems this IC is damaged. Possibly due to an abs max rating exceeding during their test. This part has current limit and thermal shutdown, so it may have been an overvoltage transient that damaged the IC. Has the customer tried replacing the IC?
