TPS23754 Cold-Start conditions <-40C

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23754

The TPS23754 seems ideal for our new design.  However, the MIN operating temp of the TPS23754 is -40C, and our system specification is to START/Turn On, not necessarily operate, at -46C.  Our expectation is that power can be applied, the normal internal operating circuitry will generate enough heat increase the case temperature to the -40C MIN, then we can actually start and use the TPS23754.

Is this a reasonable assumption?  Can we calculate the quiescent power of the device, verify it will, after some time, increase to -40C?

  • You may want to look at a hi rel or space qualified part. I have found that start up at -40 C with other devices is veery layout dependent and requires extremely tight coupling of the input bypass capacitors to the VIN and GND pins. Unless the device is switching, the power dissipation will be quite low and I would expect the heating effects to be negligible. It may start up anyway at -46 C. but I doubt there is any test data to back that up. If the business case is strong you may be able to get an extended temp range device as a custom.
