TPS25200 Max. Operating junction temperature (Tj)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25200

Dear Sir,

In TPS25200 datasheet, page 4,  7.3 session- Recommended Operating Conditions,  the TJ is -40 ~ +125degree,  But the OTSD1(135 degree) or OTSD2 (155 degree) of thermal sense is greater than +125 degree,  if TPS25200 is in output short, any risk for customer?

And in 7.1 (Absolute Maximum Ratings), it says tht the Max. TJ (operating junction temperature) is internally limited,  NO clear data,  can you provide this data for customer reference?

Now when customer do the output short test, the case tempereaure is about 124 degree.

Regards,

Jack

  • Jack,

We can provide more detail next week but this is OK for the device as it will not see this condition forever.

  • Jack,

For guaranteed device lifetime, the application must stay within the parameters listed in the recommended operating conditions table including operating junction temperature (125C maximum). But, there can be situations where a fault occurs causing the junction temperature to possibly exceed 125C and the OTSD sensors will help keep the device from being destroyed.

Please note that both OTSD (over-temperature shutdown) sensors are not designed to prevent the customer from operating above the recommended rating listed in the absolute maximum rating section of the device datasheet, but only to help preserve device life under extreme circumstances. If the condition causes Tj to go above 125C, then the device lifetime can be shortened depending on the duration of exposure to the excessive temperature condition.

For this device, typical OTSD1=146C and typical OTSD2=166C.
