WEBENCH® Tools/LM5071: DC/DC Converter Simulation

Part Number: LM5071
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23753

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I would like to design a PoE powered device which can also powered from an auxiliary power input.

I have the following spec:

Vin = 12...56VDC

Vout = 12VDC, 1.0A

Isolated min. 1.5kV

There is the WEBENCH® Designer for designing your own DC/DC converter. This tool is great.

Can I use the tool also for the LM5071?

  • Hi Benjamin,

    Unfortunately, our PoE PD products do not have such models. Typically, we will design, build, and test our PoE design to validate/optimize its performance, then release it as a TI design with a test report that shows its actual performance.

    For PoE typically when the adapter voltage is similar to the output voltage, the adapter is ORd at the secondary (with diodes or an oring controller) to save on efficiency.

  • Thank you very much for the fast answer.

    So would you be able to design, build and test a PoE design based on our needs/requirements and release it as TI design?

    Our requirements:

    Vin = 12...56VDC

    Vout = 12VDC, 1.0A

    Isolated min. 1.5kV

    Or would you be able to assist and review our design (teamwork)?

  • Hi Benjamin,

    Here's a 12V, 1A design, but is uses TPS23753. Attached is the schematic & BOM. Your isolation requirement is more a function of your board layout (the distance your planes are isolated) and whether you opt for ESD protection. We would be happy to review your design. Just reach out to us on E2E, & we can do it privately.

    Thanks,

    Thomas A.

  • Hi Thomas

    Thank you very much for all the information.

    The controller TPS23753 related application notes seems te be on a high level. Much better than the documents available for the LM5071. With that I think it should be no problem to do our own design.

    I will share privately my design with you for review purposes when it is finished.

    Kind regards,

    Benjamin
